What are we trying to change?
Describe the concern without assuming that tretinoin is the answer. Acne, uneven pigment and visible texture may require different assessment. Ask what result the proposed prescription is intended to address and what would lead the clinician to reconsider it.
This makes follow-up more useful: the clinician can compare progress with an agreed goal rather than a vague promise of better skin.
What does the clinician need to know?
Bring previous prescriptions, current skincare, known sensitivities and relevant medical history. Include products used only occasionally. Pregnancy, pregnancy plans and nursing need discussion before a prescription is chosen. AAD advises avoiding retinoids during pregnancy.[source]
What exactly is being prescribed?
Ask for the active ingredients, concentrations and vehicle. Clarify whether the named product is a fixed formula or a family with several versions. HydroTret and Night Renew can include tretinoin-free versions, so their names alone leave the question open.[source][source]
How do I get help?
Establish which contact handles medical questions and which handles billing. Ask what symptoms should prompt a message or examination and when the plan will be reassessed. A general support inbox is not necessarily a prescribing professional.
The conversation should produce individualized instructions. Do not rely on a review site or another patient’s schedule to fill a gap in the prescription directions.
What am I committing to financially?
Request the full initial charge and continuing charge, including consultation, formula, shipping and any membership. Ask what happens if treatment is declined or changed. The price guide provides a separate framework for comparing those terms.
